Aquamarine

Aquamarine is named from the Latin aqua marinus, which means "water of the sea". This term refers to its various blue-turquoise, ocean-like color. The pale blue, transparent crystal is a member of the Beryl family. Its color is the result of iron oxides within the chemical makeup of the stone which can give it a greenish hue. In ancient myth, Aquamarine was considered to be the treasure of mermaids. It was used by sailors as a talisman of good luck, fearlessness and protection. It was also considered a stone of eternal youth and happiness. Today it protects all who travel by, over, or near water. Aquamarine embodies all things connected to the sea. Being that the sea serves as a mirror, reflecting the heavens, this stone embodies the symmetry, balance and relationship between the two. Due to its nature as a stone of symmetries, it is important for meditation and revelation. Therefore, aquamarine has been used throughout history by prophets, shamans, healers, and mystics.
