The meaning of the word Topaz comes from the Greek word 'tapazos' meaning 'to seek', and it is said to have been one of the stones in the breastplate of the high priest in the Book of Exodus. The breastplate stones are considered sacred to twelve mighty angels who guard the gates to Paradise. It is also said to encourage self-realization and confidence and impart strength to quiet wild emotions. Some of the finest Topaz stones have been found in Brazil, as well as in the USA, in Texas and Colorado, and at Topaz mountain in Utah, but it has also been found in a large number of other locations.The most common colored topaz are within the yellow-orange color spectrum or as white topaz. Other colored topaz stones can occur naturally, however, they are very rare. Most topaz which exist in other colors outside the red, orange, yellow, and brown spectrum have received their color through various treatment processes. Other natural colored topaz does exist naturally within the pink and blue spectrums, however, these topaz stones are very rare and very valuable.
